Obesity is a global health problem, and those affected require treatment by multidisciplinary treatment teams, including specialists from mental health, medicine and even surgery. Although the cause of obesity is multifaceted, it is clear that chronic overconsumption plays a fundamental role. When this type of overeating becomes compulsive and out of control, it is often classified as a “food addiction,” a label that has caused much clinical and scientific controversy.
